Introducing, kiriko

It is a high quality tree mainly harvested
from the tropics of south east asia.
The pens use the heaviest and hardest of these durable trees, and they take full advantage of their beautiful texture and grains, allowing the construction of masterpieces.
Futabaen has a variety of products which use the combination of acrylic and silk. Acrylic is used instead of glass because of its superior properties, such as higher impact resistance and a density which is half that of glass. This allows the creation of products which are light and highly resistant to impact.
All Futabaen products are hand made by craftsman with over 50 years of experience. Their craftsmen used a unique method to incorporate dyed cloth into the acrylic. The silk cloth that is used with their products is uniquely dyed by hand by our master-craftsmen.
The method in dying is the same that is used in dying traditional kimono, which dates back to the Muromachi period (1336-1573) and was widely dyed during the Edo period (1603-1867) when samurai used it as part of their formal costume. At first, it was only used by the samurai but by the middle of the Edo period, the design has spread to the merchant class.
The glass is made thin to match the delicate sakura design,
pronouncing the beauty of the product.
